More than 6 million persons annually experience stroke in the world. In Russia, stroke morbidity and mortality remain to be one of the world’s highest rates. Carotid endartectomy is presently the only effective technique to prevent ischemic stroke in atherosclerotic stenosis of the internal carotids; at long-term follow-ups, it is much more effective than medical treatment and reduces a risk of stroke.
