Rhinophyma was observed in a total of 9 (0.85%) people and in only men (1.07%) from a representative sample of 1058 alcoholic patients. They were all aged over 50 years, had marked manifestations of alcohol addiction, which were characterized by personality degradation, alcoholic psychoses, a remission-free course, and multiple organ somatoneurological disorders. Doubts were expressed as to the diagnostic value of rhinophyma as a specific symptom of alcoholism in clinical practice.
