The idea of using women's care in hospitals was not new, since first in European countries, and then in This practice was already actively applied in the Russian Empire (there were "compassionate widows" and "community of sisters of mercy on the Sands" and other organizations in St. Petersburg) [1]. However, it was with the beginning of the Crimean War that it was decided to send women to help the wounded in the theater of military operations.
